Adoption patterns over time: a replication

Abstract Based on new data, we replicate Mahajan et al.’s (1990) paper adopter categories and Goldenberg (2002) saddles offer explanations extensions. We use a dataset to the results, namely, U.S. Consumer Technology Association’s Sales & Forecasts, which provides longitudinal data numerous consumer electronic products. Goldenberg, Libai, Muller utilized same source for 1999, while updated 2021 report category as well saddle replication, thus employing both studies. find that in adoption of electronics, there are fewer saddles, these shorter shallower than they were 1999. Regarding categories, break down by decades show that, early just barely decelerated over six our analysis, average growth is much faster, with peak occurring considerably sooner earlier data.
